Trailer Watch: Aidy Bryant Is Figuring Things Out in “Shrill” Season 2

"Shrill"

Aidy Bryant is convinced she’s “finally figuring things out” in a new trailer for “Shrill’s” second season, but there are still plenty of bumps along the road. After quitting her job as assistant calendar editor at The Weekly Thorn, Annie (Bryant) can’t help but wonder if she’s doing something “wrong” or “insane.” “You’re not running away from anything — you’re running towards yourself,” her boyfriend (Luka Jones) observes.

Running towards herself includes introducing Ryan to her parents. Their double date involves a horribly awkward miscommunication regarding the bread basket and domestic violence.

Annie is also struggling financially — we see the aspiring writer stealing toilet paper from her parents and offering to pay for lunch with a RadioShack gift card.

Despite all her personal drama, Annie is still finding time to write. She’s shown interviewing a naked cyclist for a story.

Best known for her work on “Saturday Night Live,” Bryant’s other credits include “I Feel Pretty” and “Girls.”

Check out the trailer to see Fran (Lolly Adefope), Annie’s roommate and BFF, spill the beans about Annie’s romantic past and share some truth of her own with her family.

“Shrill” returns to Hulu January 24. The comedy is based on Lindy West’s memoir of the same name. West, Bryant, and Elizabeth Banks are among the show’s exec producers.
