Trailer Watch: Alexandra Daddario Leads Anne Rice Adaptation “Mayfair Witches”

"Mayfair Witches"

Alexandra Daddario is following up a hellish honeymoon on “The White Lotus” by investigating a haunted house in “Mayfair Witches.” “The devil comes in many forms,” she’s warned in a new trailer for AMC+’s series adaptation of Anne Rice’s “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” trilogy. Set to premiere January 5, the show follows Rowan (Daddario), a neurosurgeon who discovers that she’s the heir to a family of witches.

The spot sees Rowan trying to come to terms with her newfound powers and learning more about the Mayfair Manor, which is associated with murders, disappearances, and witches. “I don’t understand anything that’s happening,” she admits. But Rowan’s “gift” is described as strong, and she’s told that she’s “special.”

Described as an “exploration of female power and the mortal implications of our decisions” in its official synopsis, “Mayfair Witches” is written by “Masters of Sex” alumni Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford. The former serves as showrunner. Directors include Haifaa al-Mansour (“Mary Shelley”) and Axelle Carolyn (“American Horror Story”).
