Alicia Silverstone makes someone else’s big day all about her in a new trailer for “Sister of the Groom.” The comedy sees the “Clueless” star playing Audrey, a woman struggling to come to terms with turning 40 — especially since her birthday will coincide with her brother Liam’s (Jake Hoffman) rescheduled destination wedding. She and her husband (Tom Everett Scott) are meeting Clemence (Mathilde Ollivier), her brother’s younger French fiancĂ©, for the first time, and their introduction doesn’t go well.
Convinced that Clemence is “not kind” after she mistakes Audrey for being pregnant and balks at her insinuation that Liam ought to have asked his sister’s permission before proposing to her, Audrey resolves to break up the happy couple.
Eventually, Audrey finds herself banned from attending the ceremony due to her bad behavior. “You just have toxic energy and I don’t want that around me for the most important day of my life,” Clemence explains.
Even more chaos ensues when Audrey reconnects with someone from her past.
Written and directed by Amy Miller Gross, “Sister of the Groom” hits theaters, digital, and on demand December 18.
“The Baby-Sitters Club,” “Book Club,” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” are among Silverstone’s more recent credits. She exec produced “Sister of the Groom.”
Gross made her feature directorial debut with 2018’s “Accommodations.”
