“At some point we have to face up to who we are and who we’re meant to be,” Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) is told in a new trailer for “Tomb Raider.” The bike courier is being urged to accept the fact that her father is gone. The adventurer went missing seven years ago and is presumed dead. Lara decides that she’s meant to be the one who finds answers, and goes in search of his last-known destination, a mysterious island that’s incredibly difficult to access.
“There was more to my life than business deals and boardrooms,” her father (Dominic West) reveals in a video message he left for her. He explains that it’s up to her to stop a global genocide. Turns out Lara is meant to be someone who saves the world.
Angelina Jolie previously led a “Tomb Raider” franchise, and starred in 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and 2003’s “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” The films are based on one of the best-selling video games of all time.
Vikander won an Oscar for her role in “The Danish Girl.” Her other credits include “Ex Machina” and “Testament of Youth.”
Directed by Roar Uthaug (“The Wave”) and written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”), the new “Tomb Raider” hits theaters March 16. Check out the action-packed trailer below.
