Amy Adams is following up her SAG-nominated turn as an Appalachian mother struggling with drug addiction by playing another character in a life-consuming battle. The “Hillbilly Elegy” actress toplines “The Woman in the Window,” Netflix’s adaptation of the bestselling novel about an agoraphobic child psychologist. A trailer just dropped for the psychological thriller.
By her own admission, Anna (Adams) has been “slipping,” and “getting into a really dark frame of mind.” She’s been passing the time in her New York City brownstone by keeping tabs on the neighbors across the street. Her life takes an unexpected turn she witnesses a murder take place at the home. No one, including the police, believe her account of what happened. “I’m not crazy,” Anna insists. “I know what I saw. They’re all hiding something.”
A six-time Oscar nominee, Adams has received nods for “Vice,” “American Hustle,” “The Master,” “The Fighter,” “Doubt,” and “Junebug.”
“The Woman in the Window” launches on Netflix May 14. Julianne Moore and Jennifer Jason Leigh co-star.
