“Don’t go looking into other people’s houses — you won’t like what you see,” Amy Adams is warned in a new trailer for “The Woman in the Window.” The film adaptation of the best-selling psychological thriller sees Adams playing Anna, an agoraphobic child psychologist who finds her life — and sense of reality — turned upside down after making the acquaintance of a neighbor who lives across the street.
Anna can’t go outside, but she manages to make a new friend when Jane (Julianne Moore) shows up at her door. The pair bond over a couple of glasses of wine, but their friendship is short-lived. Not long after they meet, Anna, observing from her window, witnesses Jane being stabbed in her home. And that’s just the beginning of Anna’s troubles.
When Anna calls 911 to report the crime, police show up with Jane’s husband, who claims that his wife and Anna have never met. He introduces a completely different woman (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as Jane, but Anna’s not buying it. “She’s not Jane. I know what I saw,” she insists.
Still, Anna’s accusations go unheard. A cop investigating the crime is quick to point out that Anna’s doctor told him that her meds “can cause hallucinations,” implying that she’s imagined the whole thing. She’s convinced that everyone — including the cops — have something they’re trying to hide.
A six-time Oscar nominee, Adams received nods for “Vice,” “American Hustle,” “The Master,” “The Fighter,” “Doubt,” and “Junebug.”
“The Woman in the Window” hits theaters May 15.
