Trailer Watch: Amy Poehler Reunites with Old Friends for Shenanigans in “Wine Country”

"Wine Country"

Amy Poehler’s making her feature directorial debut, and she’s bringing lots of familiar faces along for the wine-drenched journey. A trailer has dropped for “Wine Country,” and it sees the Emmy winner reuniting with many of her fellow “SNL” alumna.

To celebrate Rebecca’s (Rachel Dratch) 50th birthday, Abby (Poehler) has planned a picture-perfect Napa getaway with their best friends, played by Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Emily Spivey, and Maya Rudolph. The crew are assembling for the first time in a long time, and they have lots to catch up on in between drunken serenades, bike rides, nibbling on lavender popcorn, and shoveling down burgers and fries.

“Yet as the alcohol flows, real world uncertainties intrude on the punchlines and gossip, and the women begin questioning their friendships and futures,” the film’s official synopsis hints. Abby can’t help but wonder aloud if she’s “completely lost.”

Poehler has previously directed eps of “Parks and Recreation” and “Broad City.” She’s signed on to helm “Moxie,” a coming-of-age pic about a 16-year-old girl who starts a feminist revolution at her high school.

Penned by Spivey and Liz Cackowski, “Wine Country” hits select theaters May 8 and begins streaming on Netflix May 10. Tina Fey, Cherry Jones, and Maya Erskine co-star.
