“These are the Ozarks woods,” a family friend reminds Fern (Leven Rambin, “True Detective”), an army veteran who has just returned home. “These people around here, they don’t play by the same rules.” Neither does the woods, apparently. In the trailer for Ramaa Mosley’s latest film, “Lost Child,” Fern finds an abandoned boy in the woods and takes him in. Odd, possibly supernatural instances begin to occur.
The boy (newcomer Landon Edwards) is shrouded in mystery. He’s eery and won’t tell Fern where he came from or any personal details. “Bad idea to tell people too much about yourself — causes trouble,” he cryptically says.
When Fern does finally hear his backstory, it sounds like spooky folklore. “The boy was banished to the trees,” a neighbor reveals. “He’ll make you love him, the whole time stealing your health, life, years ahead.” It seems Fern is his next target.
Mosley wrote “Lost Child,” formerly called “Tatterdemalion,” with Tim Macy. He wrote Mosley’s feature directorial debut, “The Brass Teapot.” The duo’s next project is “Nelson,” a thriller about a writer who publishes someone else’s manuscript under his own name. When the book becomes a hit, he discovers the kidnapping at the center of the story isn’t fiction at all — it’s a real crime he’s implicated himself in. Mosley is attached to direct and Macy will pen the script.
Mosley was recently accepted into the inaugural class of NBC’s “Female Forward,” a program building the pipeline of women TV directors. She will shadow on “Blindspot” and direct an episode of the series.
“Lost Child” opens in NY and LA September 14. It will be available on VOD starting September 18.
