Trailer Watch: An Italian-American Grandmother Ponders, “What Would Sophia Loren Do?”

"What Would Sophia Loren Do?": Netflix

“What really counts is your belief in life, in people, in everybody,” says Sophia Loren in a new trailer for “What Would Sophia Loren Do?” The Netflix doc follows Nancy “Vincenza” Kulik, an Italian-American grandmother who grew up watching Italian movies starring Loren and has viewed the iconic actress as a guiding voice in her life ever since. “She depicts a very strong woman, and that really inspired me,” Kulik explains.

Whenever in doubt, Kulik has asked herself, “What would Sophia Loren do?” The exercise has helped her answer questions big and small, and to cope with tragedy. “No matter what, you have to go forward,” Kulik says. “[Sophia] never gave up. That’s courage. That’s strength.”

“What Would Sophia Loren Do?” launches today, January 15, on Netflix. Regina K. Scully (“The Vow”) is among its exec producers.
