Trailer Watch: Anjelica Huston Won’t Be Bullied in Theresa Rebeck’s “Trouble”

"Trouble"

Anjelica Huston and Theresa Rebeck are re-teaming for “Trouble.” A trailer for the drama about siblings feuding over property recently dropped. Huston and Rebeck previously collaborated on  “Smash,” Rebeck’s NBC series set in the world of Broadway.

“Trouble” sees Huston donning a cowboy hat and a badass attitude. “You get off my land now,” Maggie (Huston) tells a man approaching her property. When he doesn’t listen — and insults her — she shoots him. It turns out the man is her brother (Bill Pullman), and he’s determined to claim ownership of their late father’s property, which Maggie lives on. “Every year, he’s just a bigger idiot,” she says of her sibling.

“Theresa stands on both of her feet, and she stands for what she believes in,” Huston told Entertainment Weekly, who debuted the trailer. “She’s a feminist in the best sense. She loves men, but she’s on the side of the women. I really enjoy that in her writing. It’s robust. It tackles issues that people are often afraid of going near, and she does it with relish and enthusiasm. That’s why I like her both as a person and as an artist,” the Oscar winner said.

“Transparent” and “Isle of Dogs” are among Huston’s recent credits.

“Smash” aired from 2012-2013. Rebeck is penning the script for “355,” an upcoming spy thriller starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, and Fan Bingbing. Also a playwright, her stage credits include “What We’re Up Against” and “Poor Behavior.”

Check out the trailer to see Maggie and her brother duke it out.

“Trouble” opens October 5. Julia Stiles (“Bourne” franchise) co-stars.
