Get your hankies out: you’ll need it for the feel-good weepie “Jack of the Red Hearts.”
An unfortunate turn of events finds orphaned 18-year-old Jack (AnnaSophia Robb, “The Carrie Diaries”) in desperate need of a job and her younger sister landing in foster care. To reunite with her sibling, Jack lies her way into taking care of an autistic child, despite not having the first clue what such a role would entail. Jack eventually learns to succeed at and take pride in her work — but the child’s protective mother (Famke Janssen) eventually discovers that her smooth-talking nanny’s been deceiving her.
Janet Grillo (“Fly Away”) directs this unusual coming-of-age tale. Jennifer Deaton wrote the script.
“Jack of the Red Hearts” opens February 26.
