Trailer Watch: Auli’i Cravalho Learns to Accept Help in “All Together Now”

"All Together Now"

Auli’i Cravalho is still dreaming about how far she’ll go. The “Moana” breakout plays Amber, a musically gifted high school student who hopes to attend Carnegie Mellon, in “All Together Now.” A trailer just arrived for the Netflix coming-of-age drama.

An eternal optimist, Amber spends her time outside of the classroom planning her school’s variety show, working long hours at a donut shop to help support herself and her struggling single mom (Justina Machado, “One Day at a Time”), and volunteering at a local retirement community.

When Amber is asked to audition for Carnegie Mellon, unexpected obstacles threaten to get in the way of her dream. “The pain that you’re feeling, channel it [and] put it into your song,” the head of her drama club advises. “That’s what an artist does, and you, you’re an artist.”

Amber’s friends and chosen family rally around her, begging her to accept their support. “You do so much for other people. Let us help you,” they insist.

“Rise” and “The Little Mermaid Live!” are among Cravalho’s other credits. Her upcoming slate includes “The Power,” Amazon’s series adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s novel of the same name. Reed Morano (“The Rhythm Section”) is directing the feminist dystopia.

“All Together Now” arrives on Netflix August 28. The film’s supporting cast includes Carol Burnett and Judy Reyes (“Search Party”).
