Meet “Famous in Love,” your next delicious guilty pleasure. Freeform has released a trailer for the upcoming series about young Hollywood led by rising star Bella Thorne (“The DUFF,” “Big Love”) and created by I. Marlene King, the showrunner of long-running murder mystery “Pretty Little Liars.”
Based on Rebecca Serle’s 2014 YA novel of the same name, “Famous in Love” sees Thorne playing Paige, an average college student who auditions to star in a blockbuster adaptation of “the biggest book series since ‘Harry Potter,’” as one character in the trailer puts it.
Paige lands the gig, and is told that the opportunity “is going to change [her] life.” The prediction is true, for better and for worse. She becomes an overnight celebrity and her romantic life is turned upside down after a love triangle develops with her two co-leads.
Thorne has seemingly been a fan of the book for some time — the Amazon page for “Famous in Love” features a review she wrote. “A must-read for anyone curious about life and love behind the scenes,” Thorne praised.
“Pretty Little Liars” debuted on Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family, in 2010. It was recently announced that the cult favorite’s current season, its seventh, will be its last. “Famous in Love” is set to debut April 2017, immediately following the spring premiere of “Pretty Little Liars.” Serle and King wrote the pilot together.
