“When I heard that Tanya Tucker hadn’t made a record in the better part of 15 years, I suddenly realized how potent an influence Tanya Tucker has been on women in country music,” says Brandi Carlile in a new trailer for “The Return of Tanya Tucker.” “I wondered why the world has forgotten — and I wondered why I’d forgotten.” Kathlyn Horan’s documentary sees Carlile, a six-time Grammy winner, paying tribute to Tucker by writing an album for her, which she hopes will mark “a Renaissance period” in the trailblazer’s life.
The spot reveals that Tucker is wrestling with whether she wants to be “the talk of the town” again, and suggests that the singer stepped out of the spotlight following major loss.
Tucker’s biggest hits include “Lizzie and the Rain Man,” “Delta Dawn,” and “What’s Your Mama’s Name.”
“The Return of Tanya Tucker” made its world premiere at SXSW and hits theaters in NY and LA October 21.
