Trailer Watch: Brit Marling Wakes Up in Another Dimension in “The OA: Part II”

"The OA": Netflix

“I did it,” Prairie Johnson says with tears in her eyes, “I jumped!” A new trailer for “The OA: Part II” sees Brit Marling’s character waking up in a hospital bed and realizing she has successfully traveled across dimensions.

But nothing happened the way Prairie imagined it. This world is different than she thought it would be. In this 2016, Barack Obama isn’t president or even a public figure, she lives in a swanky apartment, and someone she used to know has gone missing — just like Prairie did in the previous dimension, before the events of the sci-fi series’ debut season. In “Part II” she teams up with a PI (Kingsley Ben-Adir) to track down the victim and figure out how this timeline connects to the one she exited.

“We traveled into another dimension, into other versions of ourselves,” Hap (Jason Isaacs) gushes. “Do you understand what we’re on the edge of here? It’s god-like.”

Marling created “The OA” with Zal Batmanglij. They received a WGA nod for writing the episode “Homecoming.” The duo previously collaborated on cult drama “Sound of My Voice” and eco-terrorism thriller “The East.” Marling starred in both and co-wrote with Batmanglij, who directed.

Sci-fi “Another Earth” and doc “Boxers and Ballerinas” are among Marling’s other writing credits. She directed the latter with Mike Cahill. Her screen roles include “Arbitrage,” “Babylon,” and “The Keeping Room.”

“The OA: Part II” drops on Netflix March 22.
