“I want to know more about what it takes to be a father and celebrate all the great dads out there,” says Bryce Dallas Howard in a trailer for “Dads,” her feature directorial debut. Featuring the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Kenan Thompson, and Ken Jeong, as well as less familiar faces around the world, the documentary explores modern fatherhood.
“You’re only as happy as your family, so you’re very vulnerable,” a teary-eyed Jimmy Kimmel shares. Will Smith, speaking to the lack of a universal parenting guidebook says, “We had a thousand page manual for a television and they send you home with a baby and nothing?!”
Howard leads an emotional conversation with her own father, director Ron Howard, about how he was always worried he’d never be as good of a dad as his father was to him.
“Rocketman” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” are among Howard’s recent on-screen credits. Her directing credits include an episode of “The Mandalorian,” a Disney+ series set in the world of “Star Wars,” and “Solemates,” a short that screened at Sundance.
“Dads” debuts on Apple TV+ June 19.
