Trailer Watch: Charlize Theron is a Killer Queen in “Atomic Blonde”

Charlize Theron in “Atomic Blonde”

Meet Lorraine Broughton, “an expert in escape and evasion,” and “proficient in intelligence collection and hand-to-hand combat.” But rather than focusing on what we’re told about MI6’s most lethal assassin in the newly released NSFW trailer for “Atomic Blonde,” you’re better off watching her in action, because Agent Broughton’s abilities speak for themselves.

Within moments of the clip, it becomes clear that Broughton, played by Oscar winner Charlize Theron, has earned her reputation. Dizzying action sequences show Broughton taking on multiple attackers, more than holding her own. As Queen’s “Killer Queen” blares, she takes care of business. The spot also shows how Broughton uses her sexuality to her advantage in the field.

The “crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service,” Broughton is “equal parts spycraft, sensuality, and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission,” the film’s official synopsis details. “Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.”

Directed by David Leitch (“John Wick”) and based on the graphic novel series “The Coldest City,” “Atomic Blonde” hits theaters this summer. Check out the violent, sexually-charged trailer below.
