“Why should I have to defend my life to a table of strangers?” asks Chelsea Peretti in a new trailer for Andrea Dorfman’s “Spinster.” Nearing her 40th birthday and recently dumped, Gaby (Peretti) desperately wants to find love. She’s focused mostly on her catering business — which specializes in weddings — while her friends have gotten married and had kids.
After suffering through a series of demoralizing first dates, Gaby begins to fear that it’s too late for her. Instead of waiting around for Mr. Right, she creates a Plan B. “I always wanted to open a restaurant,” she reveals. She also starts spending more time with her niece and gets a dog.
Best known for her role as Gina on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Peretti’s other credits include “The Photograph” and “Game Night.” Next up for Peretti is “Friendsgiving,” Nicol Paone’s comedy about a group of family and friends that comes together celebrate Thanksgiving with a chaotic and dysfunctional dinner party.
“Spinster” hits VOD and Digital platforms August 7. Jennifer Deyell penned the script. She and Dorfman collaborated on the screenplay for “Love That Boy,” a 2003 feature directed by the latter.
