“Christmas is a time for caring, being at your best,” the Queen of Country sings in a new trailer for “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.” “Christmas is a time for sharing, knowing you’ve been blessed. There are the haves and the have nots and you could be either one.” Parton stars in the special as an angel trying to help a rich and ruthless woman be a better version of herself.
When Regina (Christine Baranski, “The Good Fight”) returns to her small hometown following her father’s death, she decides to evict everyone and sell the land to a mall developer — the deadline for local townsfolk to leave their homes is Christmas Eve. An angel appears to her and implores her to change her selfish ways. “You find that light and it will lead you to the part of you you lost,” the angel explains. “The part that can be happy.”
Written by Maria S. Schlatter and directed by Debbie Allen (“Grey’s Anatomy”), “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” launches on Netflix November 22.
