Claire Foy’s latest role sees her moving from Buckingham Palace to a psychiatric ward. A trailer has landed for horror-thriller “Unsane.” “The Crown” star plays a woman trying to heal in the aftermath of being stalked. “Your life slips away from you,” she says of the experience. “Changing your phone number and email becomes normal. Taking out a restraining order, normal. Relocating to another city, normal.”
No matter how far she travels, she can’t distance herself from her stalker and the terror he caused her. She continues to see him everywhere. She explains, “Rationally, I know this is my imagination, but I’m alone in a strange city and I never feel safe.”
Seeking treatment for what seems to be PTSD leads the woman to a hospital where she’s asked to fill out “routine” forms — only it turns out that they are anything but. She’s unwittingly consented to voluntary commitment. Nothing she says or does convinces the doctors and nurses that she doesn’t belong locked up inside the psychiatric institution.
Foy won a Golden Globe in 2017 for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown.” “Wolf Hall,” “Upstairs Downstairs,” and “Little Dorrit” are among her other credits.
Reportedly shot on an iPhone, “Unsane” opens March 23. The pic is directed by Steven Soderbergh (“Logan Lucky,” “Erin Brockovich”).
