Lisbeth Salander is back, and this time around the brilliant hacker and vigilante is being played by “The Crown’s” Claire Foy. A trailer has dropped for “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” and sees the Golden Globe winner following in the footsteps of Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace to continue the story of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium book series.
This chapter of the story follows Lisbeth as she returns to her roots. When she’s set up by someone who comes to her for help — and nearly dies in an explosion — Lisbeth investigates the man’s ties. All the evidence leads back to one place: Lisbeth’s home. It turns that Lisbeth has a lot of history with the woman who sent the man and orchestrated the set up.
“Someone always has to carry the pain. Now it’s your turn, sister,” says Camilla (Sylvia Hoeks), Lisbeth’s estranged sister. She taunts, “Now the world will burn and everyone will know it’s you who lit the match.”
“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” marks the first time David Lagercrantz’s book of the same name has been adapted for the big screen. Rapace starred in Swedish adaptations of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.” Mara took on the role of Lisbeth in the English-language version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and earned an Oscar nod for her breakout performance.
Foy just premiered Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man” at the Toronto International Film Festival. She plays the astronaut’s wife, Janet. The Ryan Gosling-starrer hits theaters October 12.
