“Since my husband died, I’ve been like a ghost,” Cybill Shepherd admits in the trailer for “Being Rose.” Her character, Rose, is isolated, unhappy, and missing her estranged son. So she decides the best way to break out of her funk is to go on a road trip to see him.
Her friends are worried about the toll this journey will take. Rose needs a wheelchair to get around much of the time and suffers from “shakes.” It’s unclear what her exact ailment is, but it seems to be something neurological such as Parkinson’s. In any case, Rose is adamant that she needs to go — potential danger be damned. “I think this road trip is her way of giving the finger to loneliness,” one of her gal pals says.
Plenty of adventures abound on Rose’s way to her son, including meeting a new buddy (Pam Grier) and falling for a taciturn cowboy (James Brolin).
Check out the spot to see how Rose, an ex-cop, handles her would-be robber.
Shepherd is best known for “Moonlighting,” “The Last Picture Show,” and “Taxi Driver.” “She’s Funny That Way” and “Kelly & Cal” are among her more recent credits. The three-time Golden Globe-winner recently came forward with her own #MeToo story about former CBS head Les Moonves. She alleges her ’90s sitcom “Cybill” was cancelled because she turned down Moonves’ advances.
“Being Rose” opens January 4, 2019.
