Trailer Watch: “Diana: The Musical” Brings Princess Di’s Story to the Stage and Screen

"Diana: The Musical"

Another story about the former Princess of Wales is on the way. Netflix has dropped a trailer for “Diana: The Musical” in the wake of “Spencer’s” rave reviews out of Venice Film Festival. Described as a celebration of “the life of Princess Diana and the light of her legacy that continues to shine across the world,” the musical is debuting on Netflix before opening on Broadway.

The spot sees Diana (Jeanna de Waal) reflecting on the toll that intense media scrutiny is taking on her and envisioning a different path for herself, far from Buckingham Palace. “Flashbulbs fill the air. Frenzy fills the night. A lonely girl aswirl lost in blinding light,” she sings. Lady Di announces, “I choose happiness. I choose a fresh new start. I choose whatever lies ahead. My future’s my design. My story finally mine.”

Kristen Stewart is receiving Oscar buzz for her portrayal of the late member of the Royal family and activist in “Spencer,” slated to hit theaters November 5.

“Diana: The Musical” launches on Netflix October 1.
