A trailer has been released for writer-director Natalia Leite’s “Bare,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.
Sarah (Dianna Argon, “Glee”) finds herself working a dead-end job at a grocery store, hanging out with people who have lived in the same town their whole lives and feeling desperate to escape from the drudgery of routine.
Enter Pepper (Paz de la Huerta, “Boardwalk Empire”), a drifter with whom Sarah strikes up a strong and immediate bond. Sarah is enthralled by her new and exciting friend, who offers her the possibility of, uh, spicing up her life with a side gig as a stripper.
The two become romantically involved, but the trailer seems to suggest that Pepper’s presence may actually make Sarah’s life too dramatic for her tastes.
“The story is very much inspired by a time in my life when I was deciding how I wanted to live and who I wanted to be,” Leite told Women and Hollywood. She added, “I didn’t have a lot of freedom in my teens and I felt like an outsider most of the time, but during that time, a series of events totally changed the way I saw my own reality and showed me that I could be the ultimate creator. That was very empowering.”
“Bare” opens in theaters and on VOD October 30.
