The new trailer for Maris Curran’s directorial feature film debut “Five Nights in Maine” brings chills as two powerhouse actors, David Oyelowo and Dianne Wiest, face off in intense scenes.
Shadow and Act described the drama as “an intimate film that explores the story of Sherwin (Oyelowo), a young man reeling from the tragic loss of his wife, who travels to rural Maine to seek answers from his estranged, cancer-stricken mother-in-law (Wiest).”
From the look of this tense trailer, the answers he gets were not the ones that he was expecting.
“Five Nights in Maine” premiered at Toronto International Film Festival last year. It was acquired by FilmRise earlier in 2016. Curran wrote and produced the film in addition to directing. Rosie Perez also co-stars.
Curran told Women and Hollywood, “I gravitate to stories that examine the joys and trauma of everyday life — particularly emotional stories that form the fabric of our lives, but might be rarely discussed. For ‘Five Nights in Maine,’ I was interested in the ways that loss can actually bind people together rather than isolate them.”
“Five Nights in Maine” opens on August 5.
