Dolly Alderton pays tribute to a “grubby, golden phase of life that’s so short-lived” in “Everything I Know About Love,” an upcoming BBC series based on her 2018 memoir. A trailer for the comedy introduces us to Maggie (Emma Appleton, “The Witcher”) and Birdy (Bel Powley, “The Morning Show”), childhood best friends who move into a London flat with pals Nell (Marli Siu, “Alex Rider”) and Amara (Aliyah Odoffin, “Better Get Better”).
Set in 2012, the series explores the toll that Birdy’s new romantic relationship takes on her so-called “childhood sweetheart,” Maggie. Though Birdy claims that having a boyfriend won’t change anything, her oldest friend remains unconvinced. “That’s only a thing people say when everything’s changing,” she retorts.
The spot makes it clear that everything will indeed change. “You have always been my most important person,” Maggie tells Birdy, who can only offer, “I don’t know if we should be that to each other anymore.”
Directed by China Moo-Young (“Harlots”), the seven-part series premieres on BBC and BBC iPlayer June 7.
