Dora the Explorer says goodbye to the jungle and hello to high school in “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.” A new trailer for the live-action feature based on the beloved animated series shows Dora (Isabela Moner) being warned that high school is a “horrible nightmare” and a matter of “life and death.” The intrepid teen is definitely out of her element, and struggles to adjust to riding the school bus and dealing with bullies. But it’s not long before she gets her groove back — outside of the classroom walls.
When Dora’s mom and dad need saving, she leads a group of her peers into the jungle, where her parents have been investigating the mystery of an ancient city made of gold. “The jungle’s perfectly safe,” she insists. But the teens she’s with believe otherwise — and rightfully so. The clip includes footage of all the danger that awaits the rag-tag group.
Moner’s previous credits include “Instant Family,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” and “Transformers: The Last Knight.”
“Dora and the Lost City of Gold” arrives in theaters August 9. Eva Longoria co-stars.
