Trailer Watch: Elizabeth Banks Introduces a New Generation to “Charlie’s Angels”

"Charlie's Angels"

“I think women can do anything,” says Kristen Stewart in the first trailer for “Charlie’s Angels.” Seconds after making the pronouncement, she proves that “anything” includes kicking ass. She sends a powerful message to the rich businessman who argues that “just because [women] can, doesn’t mean they should.” Oh, and he also thinks it’s OK to steal humanitarian aid money.

Elizabeth Banks’ reboot of the “Charlie’s Angels” franchise sees Stewart (“JT LeRoy”) teaming up with Naomi Scott (“Aladdin”) and Ella Balinska (“The Athena”). The trio work for a top-secret security and investigation agency that exists “because traditional law enforcement can’t keep up,” Bosley (Banks), their handler, explains.

The Angels’ latest assignment sees them protecting the lead programmer on a product that could be weaponized. Prepping for the gig involves choosing wigs, clothes, and weapons. Lots and lots of weapons.

“Charlie’s Angels” is based on the TV series of the same name and follows in the footsteps of two previous features, 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” led by Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu.

The trailer doesn’t include a peek of Charlie, the Angels’ mysterious boss, but it does feature a new single by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey.

Banks made her feature directorial debut with box office smash “Pitch Perfect 2.” The 2015 comedy about an a cappella group took in over $287 million worldwide on a budget of $29 million.

“Charlie’s Angels” hits theaters on November 15. Banks co-wrote the script.
