Trailer Watch: Elizabeth Bennet Fights the Walking Dead in ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’

A teaser has been released for the big-screen adaptation of the best-selling novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” This gory take on Jane Austen’s 19th-century romance about lovers from different classes has the same lush landscape and ornate costumes you’d expect from “Pride and Prejudice,” but with the addition of flesh-eating zombies.

“To succeed in polite society, a young woman must be many things: kind, well-read and accomplished” explains Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James of “Cinderella” and “Downton Abbey” fame). “But to survive in the world as we know it, she’ll need other qualities,” she quickly adds. Qualities like brandishing weapons and kicking zombie ass. The footage shows Elizabeth and her sisters looking like Charlie’s Angels in a supernatural period piece. We also catch a glimpse of Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley, “Maleficent”), though their romance loses the spotlight to the fights for their lives.

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” opens February 5, 2016.
