Trailer Watch: Elizabeth Bennet Won’t Give Up Her Saber in ‘Pride & Prejudice & Zombies’

A new, full-length trailer has been released for the big-screen adaptation of the best-selling novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” This gory take on Jane Austen’s 19th-century romance about lovers from different classes has the same lush landscape and ornate costumes you’d expect from “Pride and Prejudice,” but with the addition of flesh-eating zombies. Expect more shrieking and less polite conversation in this rendering of the story.

“It began with the black plague,” explains our narrator, Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James of “Cinderella,” “Downton Abbey”). “The dead began to rise, hunting for human flesh. Now the few of us that are left have only one way to survive: We must bring the fight to them.”

Elizabeth and her sisters are well prepared to wage war. They’ve been training all their lives, and it shows: The footage shows them kicking ass like Charlie’s Angels in a supernatural period piece. As Father Bennett says, his daughters are trained for battle — “not the kitchen.”

“I shall never relinquish my sword for a ring,” Elizabeth declares, before quickly adding, “The right man wouldn’t ask me to.” (Yeahhhhhhh girrrrrrrl.)

Check out the action-packed trailer to witness Elizabeth locking eyes with the right man: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Or, if romance isn’t your thing, you can look forward to seeing an uber-creepy, flesh-deficient zombie mama holding her baby.

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” opens in theaters on February 5, 2016.
