Trailer Watch: Emma and Lyn Revamp Their Mother’s Bar in “Vida” Season 2

"Vida"

A trailer for Season 2 of “Vida” has arrived and sisters Emma and Lyn have officially moved back to the old neighborhood and are determined to make their late mother’s failing, hole-in-the-wall bar successful. Of course, this being “Vida,” the women have very different visions for the renovation. Lyn (Melissa Barrera) sees it as a “swanky, Insta-famous lounge,” while Emma (Mishel Prada) wants it to be “less dive-y and more sleek.”

What they do agree on is the new name: Vida, in honor of their mother (Rose Portillo).

Unsurprisingly, the sisters’ plans for the bar are being met with resistance from the regulars and other members of the community. A new character, Nico (Roberta Colindrez), urges Emma to honor the bar’s history as a de facto haunt for queer Latinx women. “This wall is your bar,” she says, gesturing to a picture collage of the bars’ patrons, Vida, and her widow, Eddy (Ser Anzoategui). “This says this is a safe space.”

Check out the trailer for hints about Eddy and Mari’s (Chelsea Rendon) arcs this season.

Tanya Saracho created, writes for, exec produces, and showruns “Vida.” The “Looking” and “How to Get Away with Murder” alumna is also working on “Brujas,” a series following four Chicago-based Afro-Caribbean/Latinx women and their growing relationship with the Bruja movement.

“Vida’s” entire second season will be available on the Starz App May 23. Episodes will air weekly on Starz beginning May 26.
