Trailer Watch: Emma Stone & Rachel Weisz Vie for Olivia Colman’s Attention in “The Favourite”

"The Favourite"

Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz duke it out in a new trailer for “The Favourite.” Set in 18th century England, the comedy sees the Oscar winners at war with one another and England at war with the French. The Queen of England (Olivia Colman) is delighted by the former and has forgotten the latter. The spot kicks off with her close friend, Lady Sarah (Weisz), having to remind the frail Queen that her country’s war isn’t over.

Lady Sarah emphasizes that the Queen is an “extraordinary person” who has been “stalked by tragedy,” and the footage suggests that it’s taken a toll. We see her berating servants and subjects, but not Abigail (Stone), a new servant she takes to. “If I were a man I would ravish you,” Abigail tells her flattered Queen. It’s not long before Lady Sarah becomes suspicious — and jealous — of the newcomer, whom she describes as a “viper.”

Check out the trailer to see the two battle for their Queen’s affection — and power.

“The Favourite” recently made its world premiere at Venice to strong reviews. The film hits theaters November 23.
