Trailer Watch: Eva Noblezada Sings Her Truth in “Yellow Rose”

"Yellow Rose"

“I never fit in, never could win,” an aspiring country music performer sings in a new trailer for “Yellow Rose.” The drama tells the story of Rose (Eva Noblezada, Broadway’s “Hadestown”), a Filipina teen living in a small Texas town along with her mother, Priscilla (Princess Punzalan, “The Story of Us”). The pair call the roadside motel Priscilla cleans rooms in home.

The spot suggests that Rose is struggling to muster up the confidence to sing her original songs publicly — a concern that seems less pressing when Priscilla is detained following an Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid. Both she and Rose are undocumented immigrants. “They take everything away. I don’t even have a name anymore,” Priscilla tells Rose.

“Yellow Rose” hits theaters October 9. The pic marks Diane Paragas’ feature debut. She wrote the script with Annie Howell and Celena Cipriaso.
