Trailer Watch: “Everlasting” Is on the Brink of Cancellation in “UnREAL’s” Third Season

“UnREAL”

Try as she might, Rachel (Shiri Appleby) can never leave “Everlasting” behind. A new trailer has dropped for Season 3 of “UnREAL,” and it’s clear that the troubled but gifted producer is trying to distance herself — emotionally and geographically — from the “Bachelor”-esque TV show she worked on. Rachel seems to be on a nature retreat of some kind when her restorative, peaceful experience floating in a lake is interrupted by Quinn’s (Constance Zimmer) voice.

Quinn has come to drag her protégé/frenemy back to the toxic environment she tried to leave behind — and she sure makes it hard for Rachel to say no. “‘Everlasting’ is about to be cancelled. For real. I need you,” she begs. And with that, Rachel returns to the set.

The reality dating show at the center of “UnREAL” is making history for the second season in a row. Last season of “Everlasting” saw a black suitor introduced for the first time, and this season marks the first time a female suitress has held the reins. “From now on, the only rules are the rules I make,” says the show’s new star, Serena (Caitlin FitzGerald, “Masters of Sex”). And she doesn’t trust Quinn as far as she can “punt” her, so Quinn and Rachel have their work cut out for them. As Rachel admits, “She’s smart. We can’t handle her in the same way.”

“UnREAL” was created by Marti Noxon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Mad Men”) and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro (“Sequin Raze”), the latter of whom worked as a producer on “The Bachelor.”

Appleby, who directed an ep of “UnREAL” last season, will once again step behind the camera in Season 3. Zimmer will be making her directorial debut.

The new season premieres on Lifetime February 26. The Peabody winner has already been renewed for a fourth season.
