“My dad used to say, ‘What’s remembered lives.’ I maybe spent too much of my life just remembering,” says Frances McDormand in a new trailer for “Nomadland.” The Oscar hopeful returns to theaters and hits Hulu February 19.
Written and directed by Chloé Zhao, “Nomadland” is set in the aftermath of the Great Recession and sees a woman from a rural Nevada mining town, Fern (McDormand), moving into her camper van. She travels across the American West picking up jobs along the way.
One of 2020’s most celebrated films, “Nomadland” has picked up honors from the AFI Awards, Gotham Awards, and most recently the Toronto Film Critics Association and London Critics’ Circle. The drama, which is up for four Golden Globe Awards, took home the top prizes at Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, and is expected to receive major recognition when Oscar nominations are announced March 15.
Zhao previously directed “The Rider” and “Songs My Brothers Taught Me.” Currently in post-production on Marvel Studios’ “The Eternals,” her upcoming slate also includes a futuristic, sci-fi Western take on “Dracula” for Universal.
