Trailer Watch: Frankie Shaw Tries on Different Identities in “SMILF” Season 2

"SMILF"

Bridgette Bird has given up her fantasy of playing professional basketball, but it looks like she’s still pursuing acting in Season 2 of “SMILF.” Showtime has released a trailer for the next installment of the Frankie Shaw-starrer, and it sees the single mom decked out in Western wear, a “Lady Marmalade”-esque getup, a Barbie blonde wig, and cornrows.

“It’s like I’m living someone else’s life,” says Bridgette. She’s still working for her narcissistic, oversharing boss (Connie Britton) and finding it “really, really hard” to change.

“This season finds Bridgette trying to move forward and focus on her future, while attempting to exorcise old ghosts and atone for past misdeeds,” a synopsis hints.

Bridgette (literally) falls on her ass in the spot, but true to form, she gets back up again. We also see her BFF Eliza (Raven Goodwin) and mom Tutu (Rosie O’Donnell) giving her some much-needed pep talks.

Shaw created “SMILF,” which is based on her 2015 short of the same name. “Homecoming,” “Good Girls Revolt,” and “Mr. Robot” are among her other acting credits.

Check out the trailer to catch a glimpse of Bridgette’s son Larry (Alexandra and Anna Reimer) — who remains TV’s cutest kid — and a flashback to his unconventional birth. “SMILF” returns January 20. Every episode of the comedy’s debut season was directed by a woman. Shaw helmed three eps.
