“My life hasn’t been what you probably think it has. We all have our struggles,” says Gal Gadot in the first trailer for “Wonder Woman 1984.” As its titles suggests, the pic is set in 1984, decades after the events of the first “Wonder Woman,” which took place during WWI. The action-packed spot sees Diana reflecting on her past and fighting for a better future.
We don’t get much insight into what Diana’s been up to since we saw her last — besides kicking ass, of course. Her love interest and sidekick Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is seemingly back from the grave, though the circumstances surrounding his return are unknown.
“The world needs you,” Steve tells Diana. “You know what you need to do.”
Released in 2017, “Wonder Woman” grossed over $821 million worldwide. The Patty Jenkins-directed pic took in more than $412 million in the U.S., making it the 29th highest-grossing film of all-time stateside.
“Wonder Woman 1984” hits theaters June 5. Jenkins reprises her role as director and co-wrote the script. Check out the trailer to meet a new pair of characters, Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), a deranged infomercial star, and Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), a friend of Diana’s who’s destined to become a foe.
