Trailer Watch: Gal Gadot Takes On Kristen Wiig in “Wonder Woman 1984”

"Wonder Woman 1984"

“This world is not yet ready for all that you will do. Your time will come Diana — and everything will be different,” Gal Gadot is told in a new trailer for “Wonder Woman 1984.”

The highly anticipated sequel fast forwards to 1984, decades after the events of the first “Wonder Woman,” and sees Diana (Gadot) reuniting with Steve (Chris Pine), her love interest and sidekick who has seemingly returned from the grave. The pair team up to take on two new nemeses: Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig). The former is promising citizens of the world that he’ll change their lives, and the latter, a former friend of Diana’s, decides that she doesn’t want to be like anyone — she wants to be an apex predator.

We see Barbara’s wish come as she transforms into Cheetah, a violent predator and formidable opponent for Wonder Woman. “You’ve always had everything while people me have had nothing,” says Barbara. “Well, now it’s my turn. Get used to it.”

Released in 2017, “Wonder Woman” grossed over $821 million worldwide. The Patty Jenkins-directed pic took in more than $412 million in the U.S., making it the 31st highest-grossing film of all-time stateside.

“Wonder Woman 1984” is slated for release October 2. Jenkins reprises her role as director and co-wrote the script.
