Elena Cañero-Reed is destined to run the United States, but first she’ll need to survive seventh grade. A new trailer for the second season of “Diary of a Future President” sees the middle schooler (Tess Romero) shocked to discover that “everything changed” over the summer — her BFF got a BF, her mother’s boyfriend is moving in, and her brother is struggling with his sexuality.
“I had such high expectations for this year. Now I feel so lost,” Elena admits. Not everything has changed — she’s still being guided by her future self, played by “Jane the Virgin’s” Gina Rodriguez.
The second season of “Diary of a Future President” starts streaming August 18 on Disney+. The series is loosely based on the life of creator Ilana Peña.
