Trailer Watch: “Girl Asleep” Captures Teenage Angst and Imagination

“Girl Asleep”

Being a teenager is seriously rough, and the filmmaking debut of theater director Rosemary Myers captures the angst perfectly in the new trailer for “Girl Asleep.”

The Australian comedy stars Bethany Whitmore as Greta, an unpopular girl about to turn 15 whose parents throw her a surprise party and invite the whole school.

The official synopsis details, “Perfectly content being a wallflower, suddenly Greta’s flung far from her comfort zone into a distant, parallel place — a strange world that’s a little frightening and a lot weird, but only there can she find herself.”

As the trailer highlights, something weird and other-worldly happens the night of the party. Maybe it’s real, or maybe its the imagination of a teenager gone rogue.

“Girl Asleep” first premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and also screened at the Berlin, Sydney, Stockholm, and Seattle Film Festivals this year. Oscilloscope Labs will release it in select theaters on September 30.
