The Season 3 finale of Girls marked the biggest shakeup in the show’s history: Hannah (Lena Dunham) is off to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Adam (Adam Driver) is about to make his Broadway debut, Marnie (Alison Williams) embarks on a new career as a coffee-shop singer, and Shoshana (Zosia Mamet) graduates college. (I can’t remember what Jessa’s (Jemima Kirke) up to, but Jessa doesn’t know what Jessa’s up to half the time.)
The trailer for the upcoming season promises more drama and change: Hannah being accused of being too autobiographical a writer and pressured to break up with Adam, Adam’s self-doubt as an actor and Marnie’s as the pretty girl increases, Jessa gets arrested, while Shoshana finds life outside the college bubble, like, oh my god, totally hard.
“i just don’t understand why nobody tells you how bad it’s gonna be in the real world,” the NYU grad whines. “Yeah, they do. it’s pretty much all they ever tell you,” responds Marnie, with not a hint of sympathy. Despite how irritatingly callow the characters are — or perhaps because of it — I can’t wait for the return the Girls on January 11.
