Mila Kunis enlists the help of Glenn Close in her battle against drug addiction in “Four Good Days.” A trailer for the drama, which is based on a true story, sees Molly (Kunis) begging her estranged mother Deb (Close) for support when she tries to get clean from methadone, crack, heroin, and Adderall for the 15th time. After being told that opioids have a 97 percent relapse rate, Molly is offered a treatment that will make her immune to getting high. But in order to be eligible for the first dose of the monthly shot, she’ll need to be clean for at least a week.
“Whenever I decide to reengage with her, I’ve always done it with my eyes wide open,” Deb assures her concerned partner. She’s watching Molly “like a hawk” and pretending that she isn’t, and Molly doesn’t appreciate her constant surveillance. “I’m so sorry that my drug addiction is so incredibly difficult on you,” a sarcastic Molly tells Deb.
The pair have a complicated history and resentments are high, but Deb is desperate to help save her daughter. “If there’s anyone who has the strength to break free of this, it’s you. I really believe that. I’m proud of you,” she tells Molly.
Close is up for an Oscar this year for her supporting role in “Hillbilly Elegy.” It marks her eighth nomination.
“Breaking News in Yuba County” and “The Spy Who Dumped Me” are among Kunis’ more recent credits.
“Four Good Days” premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and hits theaters April 30.
