Trailer Watch: Go Behind the Scenes of “Frozen 2” with “Into the Unknown”

"Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2"

Upon its 2013 release “Frozen” captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world, rewrote the rules of Disney princesses by celebrating empowered sisters who don’t need to be saved by a prince, and broke box office records, taking in over $1.2 billion. It’s no wonder that co-director Jennifer Lee felt “a sense of responsibility and high expectations” while prepping the sequel to the smash hit. A new trailer for “Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2,” a six-part Disney+ docuseries, sees Lee, songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Kristen Bell, and others racing against the clock to ready the film ahead of its world premiere.

Bell, who voices Anna in the franchise, explains, “In animation you write a script and then you record it, and then they go back to the drawing board, and it changes dramatically.” “Frozen 2” is being screened every three months for feedback, and the pressure is on. “I just don’t want to let the fans down,” Lee emphasizes. “We made this movie for them.”

“Frozen 2” sees sisters Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Bell) embarking on a journey to learn more about the past. Elsa needs to know why she was born with magical powers, and to find answers, she must venture into the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle. The film went on to gross over $1.4 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all-time.

“Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2” premieres June 26 on Disney+. Check out the trailer to hear Idina Menzel belting out “Frozen 2’s” signature anthem, “Into the Unknown,” in the recording booth.
