Hailee Steinfeld won’t let sexism stand in the way of her dreams in a new trailer for “Dickinson.” The Apple TV+ series sees the Oscar nominee playing a rebellious young Emily Dickinson.
“A woman should receive an education, but it should not be the same as a man’s,” Emily is told. She can’t help but wonder if men are scared “that if they teach us how the world works we’ll figure out how to take over.”
Emily’s one purpose is to become a great writer, and the poet refuses to let anyone or anything interfere with her destiny — including being dismissed as “crazy” by her peers and being told to cut out her “antics” by her father.
“Don’t act like you’re dead while you’re alive,” Emily advises. Life is short and she’s determined to make hers count.
Steinfeld received an Oscar nod for Western “True Grit.” “Pitch Perfect 3,” “The Edge of Seventeen,” and “Bumblebee” are among her other credits.
Recent depictions of Dickinson include “Wild Nights with Emily” and “A Quiet Passion.” Molly Shannon starred in the former and Cynthia Nixon the latter.
Created, written, and executive produced by Alena Smith (“The Affair”), “Dickinson” hits Apple TV+ November 1.
