Trailer Watch: Halle Berry in Frankie and Alice

The story of Frankie and Alice’s long road to theaters is nearly as hardscrabble as the life of its protagonist. Or is that protagonists, since Halle Berry plays an eager-to-please lap-dancer and her two other personalities?

Frankie and Alice was initially released in December 2010 for a week-long award-qualifying run. That netted Berry a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, but the film never opened wider.

That is, until now. Codeblack Films has rescued the move from distribution purgatory, set a proper release date (April 4), and cut a new trailer.

Based on a true story, this seventies-set melodrama gives Berry the chance to remind audiences that she can do impressive work in great roles — something in too short supply for black actresses. Phylicia Rashad co-stars as Frankie’s tough-loving mom who’s in denial that her daughter needs serious psychiatric help.
