In “Before You Know It,” Hannah Pearl Utt stars as stage manager Rachel Gurner, who still lives with her quirky family of artists — aspiring actress sister, playwright father, and preteen niece — above the theater they run. When tragedy strikes, Rachel and her sister (Jen Tullock) discover perhaps the best performer of all: their mother. A trailer for the comedy recently dropped.
“Why is this soap opera actress a co-owner of our building?” Rachel asks, scrolling through pictures on Google shortly before discovering that the star on-screen is actually her presumed-to-be-dead mother.
The feature is directed by Utt, whose previous filmmaking credits include “Disengaged” and “Partners.” She wrote the comedy alongside frequent collaborator Tullock (“6 Balloons”). Tony and Emmy-award winning actress Judith Light also stars.
“Before You Know It” premiered this year at Sundance. It hits theaters August 30.
