Trailer Watch: Heather Graham Says Goodbye to Jerks in Directorial Debut “Half Magic”

“Half Magic”

“I want to have hot sex with someone who’s really nice to me,” says Heather Graham in a new trailer for her directorial debut, “Half Magic.” She stars as Honey, a woman who is sick of dating jerks. It’s not like she’s asking for all that much — but the sleazebag she’s currently having sex with can’t meet her perfectly reasonable standards. He constantly undermines and dismisses her, at one point answering her question by asking if she’s posing it simply because she’s jealous that he’s more successful than she is. He’s that awful.

While attending a feminist event, Honey meets two new friends (Angela Kinsey and Stephanie Beatriz), both of whom are also unhappy in their personal lives. So Honey suggests the trio “make a pact to be with good guys only” — guys who treat them well like they deserve.

“Hollywood, in general, is run mostly by men, and women’s roles are being told through the perspective of a man,” Graham said in 2013. “There are some very exciting exceptions, but on the whole, most female parts are from the male point of view. As an audience member, I miss seeing things from the female perspective.” She added, “If more women start to write and direct stuff, we can see more roles where women are portrayed as the complicated, complex individuals they are — like in real life.”

Graham’s many acting credits include “Twin Peaks,” “Boogie Nights,” and “Law & Order True Crime.” She penned the script for “Half Magic.” The comedy hits theaters and VOD February 23, 2018.
