Trailer Watch: Idina Menzel Reflects on Career Highs and Lows in “Which Way to the Stage?”

"Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?"

Prepare to be transported back to Arendelle. A new trailer for “Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?” sees the Tony-winning actress and singer belting out the lyrics to “Let It Go,” “Frozen’s” iconic anthem. Menzel identifies the smash success of the Disney film as a “defining moment” for her, and emphasizes that Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck’s tale of sisters fighting for the future of their kingdom is “about harnessing the power we all have in ourselves.”

Besides tackling the impact that starring in the “Frozen” franchise has had on Menzel, “Which Way to the Stage?” also highlights the “Rent” and “Wicked” actress’ Broadway roots. The doc revisits some of her career lowlights as well. Menzel reveals that she was dropped from her label after she “sold no records.”

But “Which Way to the Stage?” isn’t just a career retrospective. It follows Menzel on her journey to fulfill a lifelong dream: headlining Madison Square Garden.

“Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?” debuts on Disney+ December 9. Anne McCabe, an editor whose credits include “Succession” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” is making her directorial debut on the project.
