Lake Bell’s directorial debut came out strong from Sundance with great reviews and winning the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Finally, we’ve now got a trailer for the film.
This was one of our favorite movies at Sundance. It was smart, totally different (the world of voice over artists!) and totally feminist. The film follows Carol (Bell) a young voice coach who puts herself in competition to do the voice-over for a blockbuster franchise. She deals with the sexism of the industry, ridiculous competitors and living in the shadow of her father who is a legendary voice-over artist.
The message was subtle, but the point was clear, why do men have to be the “voice of god” in movies? It’s about having and owning your voice.
It looks absolutely terrific. In A World… hits theaters on August 9th. However, if you are in Los Angeles this weekend, it’ll be playing at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
