After major doubts about her daughter going into the entertainment biz, Yvonne Orji’s mom is now proud to say you can watch her on HBO. A trailer has dropped for “Momma, I Made It!,” Orji’s first hour-long comedy special on the premium cable network. The spot sees the “Insecure” actress sounding off on her mom’s habit of using every opportunity to tell Orji she’s not a doctor and she needs to get married soon.
“My mom, she leaves me voicemails all the time,” Orji says in a stand-up routine. “‘Time waits for nobody. You are no longer a spring chicken. Happy birthday.'”
“Momma, I Made It!” also follows Orji off the stage, taking viewers along with the actress to Nigeria, her native home. “There is no way I could do a special about my life without showing you my life,” she explains.
Best known for her role as Molly on “Insecure,” Orji’s credits include “Night School,” “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” and “Jane the Virgin.” Her upcoming book, “Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me Into the Life of My Dreams,” is slated to hit shelves next year.
“Yvonne Orji: Momma, I Made It!” premieres June 6 on HBO. The special will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand, and partners’ streaming platforms.
